Who we are

SOI is a personal development community that holds monthly in-person workshops. This policy explains what information we collect through iamsoi.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. When we say "SOI," "we," or "us," we mean SOI and its founder, Shaless Soto.

The short version

We only collect what you choose to give us: your email address to join our newsletter, and your name and contact details when you book a workshop or become a member.
We never see or store your card number. Payments are handled by Square.
We never sell your information.
Our website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
You can unsubscribe, or ask us to delete your information, at any time.

Information we collect

When you join our newsletter: your email address. Our newsletter is published and delivered through Substack.

When you reserve a workshop spot or become a member: your payment is completed on Square's secure checkout page. Square collects your name, email address, phone number, and payment card details, and shares your name, contact details, and purchase with us so we can confirm your reservation or membership. Your full card number is handled only by Square and is never shared with SOI.

When you email us or message us on social media: whatever you choose to include in your message.

When you visit the website: like nearly every website, our hosting provider automatically processes basic technical information to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. We use privacy-friendly analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) that does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites. We only see overall numbers, such as how many people visited a page.

At in-person workshops: we sometimes take photos at our gatherings and community events. We ask for permission before posting photos where people can be identified. If you would rather not appear in photos, just let us know at the workshop or by email, and we will respect that.

How we use your information

To confirm and manage your workshop reservation or membership, and send you related details (date, time, venue, and changes).
To send you our monthly essay and news about upcoming workshops, only if you subscribed or opted in.
To run membership benefits, such as the member discount code and the community group chat, if you choose to join it.
To answer your questions and provide support.
To process refunds under our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
To keep the website secure and understand, in general terms, how it is used.
To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run SOI, and only for these purposes:

Square: processes payments, subscriptions, receipts, and refunds.
Substack: hosts our newsletter, stores subscriber email addresses, and sends our essays.
Cloudflare: hosts and secures the website, and provides cookie-free visitor statistics.
Google Fonts: supplies the website's typefaces (your browser connects to Google to load them).
WhatsApp (Meta): hosts the members' group chat, for members who choose to join it.

Each provider handles your information under its own privacy policy. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our community. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Cookies

The iamsoi.com website does not set cookies for advertising or tracking. Square's checkout pages and the services we link to (such as Substack, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp) are run by those companies under their own cookie and privacy policies.

Your choices and rights

Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
Access, correct, or delete your information by emailing shalessoto@icloud.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep certain records, such as payment records, for as long as the law requires.
Cancel a membership at any time before your next billing date, as described in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. Contact us and we will honor any request the law gives you.

How long we keep information

We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep booking and payment records for as long as we need them for tax and accounting purposes, generally up to 7 years, and then delete them.

Security

Our website is served only over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS). Payments are processed by Square, which meets the payment industry's security standards (PCI DSS). We limit who can access our accounts and protect them with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. No method of transmitting or storing information is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect yours.

Children

Our website and workshops are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will let our newsletter subscribers know.
